Collaboration, Creativity and Customization

I was asked to paint a piece of metal art that was a collaboration with V’s Treasures. V wanted to plasma cut a butterfly. The plain piece of metal caught the eye of a browsing customer. He wanted it as a birthday gift for his wife. V suggested he speak with me about painting it. As we talked about his wife’s love of the Monarch butterfly and their garden, the color choice was set. This metal piece stands about 3 feet tall and a little wider than that. That’s a lot of paint!

I shared my style of art with this customer and said it would be an abstract creation. We settled on a length of time it would take, and the butterfly migrated to my studio. I wanted my comfortable style of painting with a brush to come through on one side and I pushed myself to paint with a graffiti spray paint style on the other. It was a joyful process! The final coat was a triple thick glaze to seal the paint and add shine.

The final touch is the 3 foot welded fork stand to give it movement and height in the garden. The customer was very pleased with the results, as was I.

Creativity and customization can work with clear communication and the openness to try something new.
